One of the best things about my husband’s recent exit from the military is that we were able to move closer to family. We had been living in Hawaii, and while it was an amazing place to call home and I wouldn’t have traded that time for anything, being here in South Carolina has been amazing.
This was definitely a case of perfect timing, because we were able to move here just in time to document my sister-in-law’s first pregnancy and birth. I couldn’t have been more honored and excited to be able to capture such an extraordinary time for people that aren’t just clients, they are family!
Beaufort is a wonderful city, with many great places to have sessions. Sara was torn between doing a shoot with a “country” feel, or a shoot on the beach. So, we decided to do both!
In January, we headed to Lady’s Island, and a great little field with trees covered in Spanish moss, a view of the marsh, and even an old abandoned dock.
With Walter in his flannel shirt, and Sara in some comfy jeans and a cute top, we got some beautiful individual and couple’s shots, as well as some detail images, like Baby Connor’s first pair of cowboy boots, and “suit and tie.” (Justin Timberlake has nothing on my nephew!) They even brought along a “Cars” themed baby-on-board sign, since Dad is a huge Nascar fan!
And then in February we completed Sara’s maternity session at Hunting Beach. As you can tell, it was a gorgeous day, and Mother Nature created a spectacular sunrise for us to use as backdrop. There’s just something about the light of a sunrise that is dreamy and hopeful, and just perfect for a maternity session. Hunting Beach also just happens to be one of Sara’s favorites, that she’s been coming to for years, so of course we had to choose this location to celebrate the beauty of her blossoming motherhood.
During her shoot on the beach, Sara wore a lovely lace dress created by Ashley, a previous client and friend, owner of The Mad Monogram. It was the perfect complement to the silhouette of her round baby belly.
I was so excited to be able to capture the glow and love for this new baby boy that radiated from my sister-in-law during our sessions together, as well as getting to hear the pride in Walter’s voice as he gushed about his little boy on the way. In 20 years, when Connor looks back on these photos from the beginning of his life, he’ll know that they were done with love by someone special in his life.
