At just 10 days old, Baby A came into the studio for his newborn mini session – joined by his proud big brother – and this session was such a perfect blend of softness and strength.

While many people associate newborn sessions with pale pastels or creamy whites, we’re seeing more and more parents embrace bold, non-traditional tones. Baby A’s mama requested darker colors in her questionnaire, and I couldn’t have been more excited to style this session using deep greens and rich blacks. Not only did these colors photograph beautifully, but they added a cozy, modern feel that was still timeless.

Yes – even for baby girls, black is quickly becoming a requested staple! It’s dramatic without being harsh, and when paired with soft textures and snug swaddles, it brings out the tiniest features in the most beautiful way.

For Baby A, we chose a mix of textured knits and neutral layers to keep things simple and sweet. One of my favorite shots? The one of him snuggling a tiny knit bear with the biggest smile – proof that even the shortest mini session can capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Adding big brother to the mix brought extra cuteness to the session. He was gentle, excited, and clearly smitten with his new baby sibling. That sibling portrait – with Baby A wrapped snugly and big brother proudly holding him – might just be a family favorite for years to come.
