Hey, new parents – first of all, congratulations! Whether your baby is already here or you’re counting down the days, it’s such an exciting time. You might already be dreaming up the sweetest newborn photos with swaddles, soft lighting, and sleepy little poses. But here’s the question so many new moms and dads ask me:
“Should I be in the photos, too?”
And listen – I get it. You’re running on little sleep. You’re sore, maybe a little puffy, and you can’t remember the last time you washed your hair. The idea of stepping in front of the camera might feel… not super appealing. And that’s okay!
I’ll never pressure you into something you’re not comfortable with. But if you’re on the fence, here are 5 reasons why I gently encourage parents to step in for just a few photos during your newborn session with Nadia Hurtt Photography here in Beaufort
1. These Moments Only Happen Once
Newborns change in the blink of an eye. One minute they’re curled up on your chest, and the next they’re crawling, walking, and full of personality. Capturing these early moments – your arms around them, their head on your shoulder – is something you’ll never regret. You won’t look back and see exhaustion; you’ll see love.

2. Your Baby Will Cherish These Photos Someday
Right now, your little one couldn’t care less about the camera. But in a few short years, these portraits become part of their story. They’ll treasure seeing you with them – smiling, holding, snuggling. It tells them, “I was so loved from the very beginning.”

3. You Don’t Have to Be “Photo-Ready”
Seriously, no one expects you to look like you’re heading to a red carpet. My sessions are all about real, relaxed moments. I’ll guide you into soft, flattering poses and use natural angles and light to make you feel confident and comfortable. You don’t need to do anything special – just show up as you are.

4. You Deserve to Be Celebrated, Too
You just brought a whole human into the world! That’s incredible. This moment isn’t just about your baby – it’s about you, too. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, this chapter deserves to be honored – you’re the heartbeat of your baby’s world.

5. These Photos Capture Feelings, Not Just Faces
What I love most about newborn sessions is the emotion they hold. The way you gently hold your baby. That look of awe in your partner’s eyes. The quiet joy of a growing family. These are the kinds of memories that bring you back, every time you see them.

At Nadia Hurtt Photography, there’s never any pressure to be in photos if you’re not up for it. But if you’re even a little bit curious, I say go for it. You don’t need to feel “ready.” You just need to be there – because to your baby, you’re perfect just the way you are.
And that’s exactly what we’ll capture.
