As every parent knows, feeding our babies can be an amazing time to bond with those little people in our lives. Momma’s Milk Sessions can capture those little moments that are so fleeting, like how baby plays with your necklace, looks right into your eyes as they memorize your face, or how you rub their tiny feet while they relax.
I asked these nursing moms some questions about why they chose breastfeeding, and what they would say to moms who are hesitating, or having trouble nursing. Overwhelmingly, they all said that it can be tough! Their best advice is to keep trying, because it can take awhile for it to become second nature. Lactation consultants are always a great resource, as well as FB groups. And support is key: when you’re feeling like others are supporting your decisions and helping you get through those tough first few weeks, it’s so much easier to stick with it. The rewards are pretty awesome if you do.
Breastfeeding sessions don’t always start out with baby eating right away. We like to ease into things, and let the babies do a little playing and looking around before it’s time to chow down.
Then after we’ve gotten used to each other, baby is ready to eat! I really love getting to photograph all these precious moments, while at the same time trying hard not to distract from their meal. It can be a challenge, but it’s definitely worth it.
And somewhere in there, I always try to get some great shots of those sweet faces. Momma’s Milk Sessions aren’t just about eating. They’re also about the experience, the personalities of Mom and Baby, and the little things that make them special.
When I asked if these ladies would recommend nursing sessions to other moms, they all said yes! Right now, your baby relies on you for so much, but it won’t be long before they’re off on their own two feet ready to find other adventures. Whether you breastfeed for a couple weeks, or a couple years, these moments are fleeting. And as one mom pointed out, it’s so hard to get great photos of you and your baby when you’re the mom behind the camera!
Momma’s Milk Sessions are included in some of our Birth and Maternity packages, but are also available to book on their own. Let me do the work of capturing that special bond, so that you’ll have those images for years to come.
Destination sessions are available, as well as sessions in Beaufort, South Carolina. To schedule your own Momma’s Milk photography session, feel free to contact me at info@nadiahurttphotography.com.
