Will I love my second child as much as I love my first?
This is a question many moms ask themselves when they find themselves expecting baby #2. And it’s no wonder! When that first baby arrives, and you’re suddenly hit with so many emotions that you’re not sure if your heart can hold them all…well, of course doing it all over again seems like it might be a little impossible.
The last mom in this year’s Mother’s Day photography project, Emily, has been asking herself that very question lately. Her son, Hunter, is about 18 months old, and she’s also expecting her second bundle of joy any day now.
I wanted to include Emily in this project because, as a military wife, it hasn’t been easy for her to get photos taken as a mother. Her husband was deployed for most of her first pregnancy, and by the time he arrived home and they were scheduled to have maternity photos taken, Hunter decided to make his debut early! This time around she wanted to have photos to remember not only her time carrying her second baby, but to celebrate her last few moments as the mother of one.
Being a mom means the world to me. Before I had my son, I didn’t have many cares in the world. Now I have a wonderful little boy who stole my heart from day 1.

Emily told me that he is 100% boy, and she loves it because it gave her husband a new best friend. Hunter lights up every time Daddy walks through the door, and it always makes Emily love them both a little more. Knowing that she’ll soon get to see Hunter be a big brother makes all the uncertainty of this second pregnancy totally worth it.
I’m sure we can all relate to how she’s feeling, but we can also reassure Emily that a mother’s heart is specially made to hold all the love that grows with each of her children. After seeing her with Hunter, I know she is going to do just fine.
Since this is the last of the Mother’s Day series, I just wanted to take a moment and thank all the wonderful moms who participated and allowed me to capture the special bonds they have with their families. To me, it’s amazing how different we all are as mothers, whether it’s how we parent, how we became moms, how many kids we have, the trials we’ve been through, etc. One thing connects us all, though, and that’s love for our precious children.
