Tragedies can sometimes have the unintended consequence of bringing people closer together. When Christina suffered a devastating loss two years ago, her life was turned upside down. Feeling lost and alone, she turned to the strongest person she knew, the one who had always been there for her when she needed: her mom, Trudi.
Christina and her mom have always been the best of friends. From the days when they would travel together to dance and cheerleading competitions, to the day Christina found out she was expecting her first child, Trudi was always right by her side to support her and make her feel like she could do anything she tried. They were so excited to get to meet that bundle of joy, Trudi’s first grandchild (granddaughter!) that they spent months planning everything just right. When little Harper Lynn, named after Christina’s mom, was born, she immediately became the third pea in their pod, and they were inseparable.
Trudi was there with Christina to cheer on all of Harper’s firsts: rolling over, smiles, finding her feet, eating her first foods, meeting new people. The joy Harper brought into their lives was extraordinary, and there wasn’t a baby out there that was more loved.
Harper was seven months old when she suddenly passed away, and Christina had to make the hardest phone call of her life. Trudi was out of state, having just lost her father, and Christina was forced to choke out the words: there’s been another loss. The baby they loved so very much was gone.
Healing after such a deep loss can be hard for everyone, especially if they are facing that storm alone. Christina knew she’d always have her mom, her best friend, by her side to help her get through it. Trudi gave all the love she had to give so that her daughter could heal, and in the process their bond grew even stronger. It turns out, these extraordinary women had begun to heal each other.

I could go on forever about how my mom is special. My mother is the sweetest, kindest, most care free lady I have ever met. She doesn’t have a mean or rude bone in her body. She will drop anything for anybody at any time. I am pretty sure all of Beaufort knows how sweet and special she is not only to our family and friends but to the community.
During our mother and daughter photography session in Fort Fremont, I was able to witness just how special the bond is between these two. Christina is quiet and reserved, and I could feel just how strong she’s been. Trudi is talkative and bubbly and a real people-person. Together their personalities really complement each other, and make them a lot of fun to be around. When Christina says that her mom is her best friend, it’s obvious how true that is.
It will be two years in May [since Harper’s passing] and not one day has gone by where my mom and I have not been there for each other. I never thought something like this could bring two people closer than what we already were. She is not only my mom but [my] best friend, and I love I have a mother I can call my best friend.
When it comes to our moms, isn’t that the way we all wish it was?
